STUDENT CENTERED APPROACH
TIME LOCATED/ PROCEDURE | CONTENT | TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES | REMARKS |
Set induction (5 minutes) | Refresh previous lesson: Sample space and the outcome of an event Probability of an event. By showing the students 10 image of famous entertainer and introduce the probability of two events. | Teacher asks the students to form 10 a group of three. Show them ten image of famous entertainer like the following: (Siti Nur Haliza, Angelina Jolie, Rosyam Nor, Oprah Winfrey, Jozan Raja Lawak, Tom Cruise, Aznil Haji Nawawi, Lisa Surihani, Jennifer Lopez, Jason Mraz) and give out a handout consist of the number of entertainer which each group need to select and a Venn Diagram. Teacher asks the students to select numbers of entertainers based on the instruction given by the handout. They can select any entertainer that the teacher had expose before. Teacher asks the students to list down the entertainers that they have selected and the entertainers that they did not selected. Then, ask the students to mark it on the Venn diagram. Teacher asks the students to find out the probability of the event that they have selected those entertainers. Teacher asks the leader of each group to present the probability value that they get and paste the handout on the whiteboard. Teacher tell the students that they have learn about probability of an event before this, yet, today lesson is about probability of two event. | Teaching Method: Cooperative learning. Strategy: Construct a structured game. Using diagram. Using manipulative material Teaching Materials: LCD Laptop Learning materials (pen, pencils, paper) Handout Moral Values: Cooperative. |
Instructional Development (17 Minutes) | Determine the probability of two events: A and B occurring A or B occurring | Teacher selects two handouts and asks the students to combine the two events and find out what are the elements that both events share. Ask the students to draw the two events using Venn diagram to make them clear on the element that the two event share. Teacher asks the students to find the probability of the intersection of the two events. Ask the students to make generalization based on their previous knowledge. Teacher will act as facilitator. Teacher selects another two handouts and asks the student to find out the probability of the intersection of the two events. This will help to make the students clear about what they have formulated on intersection of two events. Teacher makes a conclusion by writing down the formula of intersection on the whiteboard. Teacher selects another two handouts and asks the students to combine the two events and find out what are the elements that both events have. Ask the students to draw the two events using Venn diagram to make them clear on the element that the two event share. Teacher asks the students to find the probability of the union of the two events. Ask the students to make generalization based on their previous knowledge. Teacher will act as facilitator. Teacher selects another two handouts and asks the student to find out the probability of the union of the two events. This will help to make the students clear about what they have formulated on union of two events. Teacher makes a conclusion by writing down the two formulas on the whiteboard. | Teaching Method: Cooperative learning. Inductive method Constructivism Strategy: Using diagram. Using manipulative material Teaching Materials: Learning materials (pen, pencils, calculator, paper) Moral Values: Cooperative. Creative and Critical Thinking: Generalization |
Evaluation (15 Minutes) | Find the probability by using the formula that the students had generated based on the given worksheet. | Teacher provides worksheet 1a and 1b for each group to do individually. For each answer that the students provide, there will be an alphabet represent it. Asks the group to rise up their hand if they have finished their tasks. Teacher give out worksheet 2 for the group to jotted down the alphabet that they get from answering worksheet 1a and 1b. Check the word that they get as it suited to the sentences given on the worksheet 2. Ask the students in the group to discuss if the word they get is not suitable to the sentences. After completing the tasks, ask the student to paste the worksheet 2 on the board. | Teaching Method: Cooperative learning Strategy: using manipulative materials Teaching Materials: Worksheet 1a, 1b and 2. Learning Aids (pencil, pen, calculator, paper) Moral Values: Cooperative. |
Closure (3 Minutes) | Summary of the lesson | Teacher concludes the lesson by asking what have the students learn today on probability of two events. Teacher draws a mind map based on the students answer. | Teaching Method: Discussion Strategy: Using mind map Teaching Materials: Teaching Aids (marker, board) Moral Values: Cooperative. |
Worksheet 1a: Find the probability of two event where A or B occurring
Worksheet 1b: Find the probability of two event where A and B occurring
Worksheet 2: A4 paper with sentences on it. Each sentence consists of 3, 4 or 5 blanks.
